Dear HealthSpring Fitness Member:

As the pace of the spread of COVID–19 has slowed in California, some commercial fitness centers are reopening with strict limits on how they operate, including how many customers can use the facilities at one time.

HealthSpring Fitness is not a commercial gym. HealthSpring Fitness is a medical fitness center, and as such, many of its members have existing health conditions which put them at higher risk of COVID-19 and the new variants.

Given this, we closed HealthSpring Fitness in March of 2020. Unlike many other fitness facilities that closed permanently, however, we are planning to reopen once we deem it safe for all of our members — especially those with medical conditions who comprise a significant segment of our membership, and we can bring on new management to take care of our members and operate the facility.

We are closely monitoring the status of COVD-19 in our community. In the meantime we are maintaining our facility and determining how to make it as safe as possible. We expect to contact all of our members by July 1 with an update on our reopening status, as we continue to evaluate the safety and practicality of reopening later this year. In the meantime, all membership accounts and gift cards are frozen until we reopen.

We extend our appreciation to the many members who responded to our recent survey regarding their intention to rejoin. The findings were key to guiding our reopening plans. We hope all of our valued members will choose to return to HealthSpring Fitness.

Facility Reopening

We are continually monitoring the status of COVID–19 and COVID-19 variants in our community. We hope to reopen later in 2021 when we are convinced we can provide a safe environment for every membe — especially those with medical conditions who comprise a significant segment of our membership.

HealthSpring Fitness is not a gym. It is a medical fitness center and an extension of the NorthBay Healthcare organization. Protecting the health and safety of the lives entrusted to our care is a priority for us; it is our duty as health care stewards. Until we are confident HealthSpring can be a safe environment for all of our members, especially those with chronic conditions, we cannot in good conscience reopen. Our decision to remain closed was not made lightly.

No. We plan to reopen when we can do so safely. We are retaining all of our fitness equipment, and we are maintaining our pools.

Membership Account

We closed HealthSpring on March 17, 2020. In mid-July we informed our members via email and mail (those we did not have email) that we created a system that provided a choice of how to manage their membership (and refunds). Members could either terminate their memberships and receive a refund for any outstanding services and dues, or they could “freeze” their accounts with no risk of immediate fee increases when we reopen. All accounts were processed by September 1, 2020 based on responses received. Our deadline for processing refunds, which was communicated months ago, has closed. If we did not hear from you, your membership was “frozen” until we reopen. Most members froze their membership looking forward to HealthSpring’s reopening.

No. During our closure, members will not be charged dues.

You can monitor the status of HealthSpring Fitness by visiting our website at www.HealthSpringFitness.org. When the reopening date is determined and scheduled, we will reach out to every member in advance of the reopening date with information, and reactivate your account.

Yes. Gift cards and services purchased by members and non-members are “frozen,” just like fitness center memberships. Refunds are not available. Once HealthSpring Fitness reopens, you can use your services, gift cards and/or gift card balances.

Since our processing window closed on Sept. 1, 2020, refunds for dues, gift cards and services are no longer available. All accounts are frozen until we reopen.

Members who retained their memberships are guaranteed the rate they were paying when the facility closed last year (2020), for at least 90 days after HealthSpring Fitness reopens.

We will continue to update you with information about our facility as we learn more and the situation evolves.
