Dear HealthSpring Fitness Member,

With the looming prospect of the COVID-19 emergency extending over the next many months, NorthBay Healthcare has made the difficult decision to keep HealthSpring Fitness closed indefinitely.

Power Wellness, the management firm hired to operate the center, chose to send permanent layoff notices to its employees on Friday (May 29). It had already sent temporary layoff notices. Out of respect for those individuals, we waited until today (Monday, June 1) to notify our members.

While Gov. Gavin Newsom is expected to soon release his guidelines for reopening health clubs and fitness centers, which would be followed by county regulations, we are not convinced that unique facilities like ours could be safely opened any time soon.

Again, this was a very difficult decision, but one we made to protect our members.

We will, of course, continue to monitor proposed safety practices for opening fitness centers, but it is important to remember that there is no foreseeable end of COVID-19, nor is there an accepted medical treatment, not to mention an approved vaccine on the horizon.

Because HealthSpring is a medical fitness center, we must set safety standards considerably higher than a typical workout gym. We created a unique facility open to the general public, but one that also serves patients undergoing rehab and therapy. Many of our members are older and are more at risk than members in a typical gym setting.

Until we are thoroughly confident that HealthSpring can provide a safe environment for all of our members, we will keep the facility closed.

While we closed on March 17, many of you were billed for the entire month of March. So we will be providing refunds for the balance of the month. Members who purchased additional services (aquatics, massage, personal training or Pilates) will also be provided refunds.

We will continue to update you with information about our facility as we learn more and the situation evolves. If you have any questions, please e-mail us at HealthSpring@NorthBay.org.

Thank you for your membership, and for allowing us to be your health and fitness center. And thank you for your patience and understanding during this extraordinary time. We hope that when the time is right to safely re-open, you will choose to return to our member family.

Sincerely,

Scott Davis signature

Frequently Asked Questions

Given the likelihood of more infections and more COVID-19 cases as the county and cities reopen businesses, and with the coming flu season in the fall, the expectation is that HealthSpring very likely could remain closed through the end of the year. However, planning will begin to develop a reopening plan that will ensure member safety and satisfaction.

Further information, as available will be communicated via email, social media, and on the center’s website. Inquires can also be made to HealthSpring@NorthBay.org

NorthBay HealthSpring Fitness is not a gym. It is a medical fitness center and an extension of the NorthBay Healthcare family. The decision to remain closed was not made lightly.

The COVID-19 crisis continues to pose all the same risks to public health as it did at the onset of the pandemic. While Gov. Gavin Newsom is expected to soon release his guidelines for reopening health clubs and fitness centers, which would be followed by county regulations, we are not convinced that unique facilities like ours could be safely opened any time soon.

There is still no vaccine or cure for this highly contagious virus. Protecting the health and safety of the lives entrusted to our care is more than a priority for us. It is our duty as health care stewards. Until we are thoroughly confident that HealthSpring can provide a safe environment for all of our members, we cannot in good conscious reopen at this time.

While we closed on March 17, many members were billed for the entire month of March. For those members, we will provide refunds for the balance of the month. Members will be refunded for the portion of unused dues and services or gift cards purchased in advance. We are working on a refund process now and will publish the details in the FAQ’s on this website

Arrangements will be made for members to collect their belongings. Further information will be communicated via these FAQs.
